Description
When the first Futuristic Soldiers pack popped up here, I didn't even look at it. When the second came along, I looked at the screenshots, but didn't download it. But now that version 2.1 has come along, I get the pleasure of reviewing it! Unfortunately, it isn't as much a brand new version as it is a fix to version 2. So, here's the review for v2:

[quote]Here we have version two of Darth Java's Futuristic Soldiers skin pack. There have only bee a few changes since last time around (although they make the skins look much better) so I will paste my original review in here rather than writing an entirely new one.

[quote]I think the Rocket trooper model is unfortunately one of those more obscure models that often gets left behind as far as modding is concerned. Every so often though someone comes along with a good reskin that brings the poor old Rocket Trooper back into the light! Here we have five different skins to choose from;

# A blue themed Arctic Suit.
# A Jungle/Forest Camouflage Suit.
# A Black Space Hazard Suit.
# An Urban Camouflage Suit.
# A red themed Volcanic Suit.

Unfortunately there aren't any team skins in this pack, but I think for next time it might be cool to convert the Lava and Arctic suits to also serve as red and blue team skins. That way you don't have to spend a lot of time making new team skins and players get that extra team support. All the skins are well made, and I especially liked the black Space Hazard Trooper Suit, although I must say that the skins are spoiled a little by the prominent red writing on them, which really doesn't fit with the theme of these skins. The face skinned on the visor also looks... a little disturbing. The face texture is somewhat distorted and it think it would be better just to have a plain visor texture in this area.

There are some great new sounds though, taken from Battlefield 2142. The death sounds especially were somewhat amusing for a Rocket Trooper... "MEDIC! ARRGHHH!" They all fit well though and were a nice addition to this skin pack!

Overall good work here! I really liked the texturing jobs on these skins, but like I said, for next time around I think you should remove that red writing and also replace the face texture with a plain visor texture. Apart from that I think it would be good to also add some team support, as I said above. All in all though I enjoyed this skin pack and look forward to seeing more work from you mate!

Well for one, I am glad to say that those very strange faceplate textures are gone and have been replaced with a plain old glass looking faceplate, rather than two rather large eyes. There has also been a new shiny shader applied to all the skins, which I think looks great. The lava and arctic suits have now been converted to serve as the red and blue team skins, although I am a bit disappointed you didn't include them as default skins as well, as that is what I had originally hoped for. Also worth noting is that the large red lettering from the previous version is also gone, again improving the overall look of the skins.

There is still a niggling little bug here though, and that is that there appears to be a couple of missing textures on the abdominal area, around where a belt would be. Fix this and these skins would be even better still!

Oh and do I spy something which looks like my Mos Eisley Backstreets map in the desert suit player icon? stick out tongue

Anywho, good work here mate, a nice update to an already good skin pack!

A shader has been updated for the desert trooper skin. Not sure what was wrong with the previous version, but I'm sure that this is an improvement. And because I don't know what was wrong with the previous version there is nothing else I can say about this version that hasn't already been said.

Give it a download if ya like it!
