Description Here we have yet another beginner map, this one by Chickenkeeper. While this one does take a couple steps away from what I've come to expect of first maps, it still does lack the polish of a good map.
The first thing that really irked me was the name and description of the map. "First Map?" At least give it a name of some sort! Simply calling it your first map and describing it as such doesn't show much creativity. I loaded up the map, and noticed that the Command Post setup was not the default four, which is always a good thing. Sadly, the placement leads to a dramatic advantage at the start to the Republic/ Empire since they start off with one more CP than the other team. However, another nice thing to note is that th author actually placed objects and used some nice height variation, though it could use a bit more blending to look less jagged.
Unfortunetely, the negatives outweigh the positives. The sky is still default, the terrain texture - while changed - is much too dark on medium or high light settings, the trees appear to be missing textures, and there appears to be a lack of AI barriers and planning in some spots. In the end, it plays out mostly the same as many of the generic foresty maps we already have here.
My suggestion to the author, and any other mappers, is to try something new. A new planet, environment, gameplay, etc. The Yavin/Endor/whatever theme gets recycled waaay too much. Go look up a planet on Wookieepedia; or better yet, make one up. Do something fresh and exciting. I'm just tired of seeing essentially the same map over and over again.
