Description We don't get too many map authors that go back and make a 2.0 taking into account comments and criticism. Most often the outcome is a nicely polished map that receives much higher praise. This map is no different. Let me use excerpts from my original review and expound upon them.
There is a lot of building to do on this map. It introduces a different level into the game. There are many (maybe too many) resource pads lined up all over the map. There are also (unbuilt) turbolaser turrets all over the map as well. So your choices are, build troops, build mineral processors, or build turbolasers. Some combination of the three is required. But there are so many resource pads in the base that maintaining those is not too much a chore.
This remains basically unchanged. I think there are fewer pads now than there were before, which helps create a better balance and more strategy.
There are pirate forces scattered along the western side of the map as well. But they are not in the way are the fighting can all be done without engaging them. There's a small pass that connects the two bases, but it is guarded by pirate turrets so a quick blitz that way won't work.
This has been changed for the better. When before there was a way to bypass the pirates and engage the true enemy, now there is only a way for infantry to do that via a mountain pass that can be fortified with turrets. The only way for non-repulsorlift craft to engage (there is a lake in the middle) is to engage the pirates first and engage the base in the front. This creates a noticeable amount of time before any real battle happens between the two teams. But dealing with the pirates creates mini battles that must be done quickly and efficiently for any upper hand to be gained.
And here's the authors description:
Map Description: This maps primary highlight is, obviously, Mount Kraavaran. There are 2 bases.
A technical 3rd base is the Black Sun and Mandalorian Base both on, and next to the mountain.
They are dug in pretty well, They have 3 turbolasers and several anti infantry turrets. Each player base
has 4 mineral pads in them. The Mtn has 4 on it also and the pirate base near it has 3. Each player
bas has 5 buildable turbolaser towers in them (2 at the entrance of the base 3 in the back)
Several Buildpads in them. There is a small infantry only pathway between both of the bases,
the entry point on these have build pads on them so you can build anti infantry do defend it. The
area next to the Mtn controlled by the Mandies and Black suns is the prime battle area.
As a side note to the author and anyone else interested; there are pictures included in the file, but they are not jpg format. There are instructions stating how to add pictures and what format they need to be in. The pictures are what makes this download so big, but since they can't be posted on the page, I felt I would do an injustice to delete them. The author really should resubmit this file with the proper pictures and none in the included zip, more people would be willing to download it then.
