Galaxy Class
The Galaxy Class starship was designed to replace the Ambassador and Oberth classes as Starfleets primary exploration vessel. The spacious primary hull provides room for science labs where sensor data to be analysed, it is also used for crew quarters and recreation.

Barring the Sovereign, the Galaxy is the largest ship in the fleet, containing 52 decks. During its design phase an entirely new warp core and an enhanced warp nacelle design were required. These modifications allow for a maximum velocity of warp 9.9.

Four years before the Dominion war Starfleet started upgrading these starships, adding additional phaser arrays and a hand full of other improvements. After the start of the war these enhancements were seen in action, making the Galaxy a formidable and deadly opponent.
