Description
Eighteen-sided cylinders! Yeesh! Talk about your overkill.

Well now that I started off the review on such a good note, let\'s get on to the rest of it. Firstly let me introduce the mod: this is a Jedi\'s lightsaber. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a very typical style, nothing out of the ordinary. What is unique is that there is a battleworn version. The battleworn version features a slightly modified model (some polies were moved to make it look like there are chunks out of it -- no worries, it\'s not any more poly-intensive than the original model).

I\'d like to take a moment to give the author a thumb\'s up on the texturing. I have my complaints in that regard, but I\'m relatively certain that this is a big step up from some of his past models, and it\'s always the effort that counts. The technique can always be refined later. In regards to my complaints (read as: suggestions) there\'s no real need to make the base texture have such intense chrome striping. The shader should take care of the chrome (you might consider adding an env map next time, to make it more realisic -- chrome should never simply be skinned on). The texture itself should really only reflect what the metal looks like beneath it (show some shading, but not so intense as you\'ll never really see it). The specularity map should naturally have more contrast, as it does.

I\'d also try a new technique for your battle worn texture. It looks more like a Jackson Pollack painting than battle damage.

Overall I\'d say a good hilt, not too out there but it definitely has its perks that make it worth getting. Apparently the battleworn version is targeted at RP fans... you know who you are. Download.
