Description Hmm, a first skin. And it's not some form of desaturated mumbo jumbo? ....Did someone spike my coffee here? Seriously, this can't be right...
Oh, but it is. You see, here we have someone who said "I'm not going to claim credit as a skinner for doing absolutely jack! I'm going to actually skin something!". Rarity indeed, but it's a challenge many more people should rise to rather than merely tapping CTRL+D in Photoshop and calling the end product a texture file.
Firstly, be warned that this will overwrite Kyle Katarn. That's pretty much the biggest drawback, so let's get it out of the way - for as long as you have this file installed, Kyle is unplayable. Period.
Well, now that we got that out of the way, let's see what we've got here.
This skin is, fundamentally, a re-styled Episode 1 Obi-Wan. If I wanted to keep things simple, that's about as far as I'd go. To elaborate, it's an Episode 1 Obi-Wan restyled to look older, complete with white hair, darker skin tone, and general minor details. The coloring of the clothing has also changed - whereas a traditional Jedi robe would be a creamy beige, this is a dark fox brown color. The face has minor details on which will be barely noticeable in the game unless you look very close through a disruptor scope, but these apparently make the Jedi look older. To me, it makes him look mediterranean, but meh.
What are the typical first-timer aspects? Facial hair looks so blatantly painted on. It has nowhere near the amount of detail one would expect for facial hair - in fact, it has little detail at all. Skinning hair properly is quite an advanced thing, it'll take some time before the author gets used to it. There's a few misaligned textures on there which might need fixing for a future release, if there will be one. Thankfully, the majority of the newbie habits have been forsaken here, so it's quite a quality release for a first project.
I gotta say, rookie, not bad. Not bad at all. Keep at it, you can only get better with experience.
